Bastion Saint-Laurent, Military bastion in Croix-Rousse, France.
The Saint-Laurent Bastion stands on the slopes of Croix-Rousse, featuring thick stone walls, defensive positions, and architectural elements from the 16th century.
Built between 1513 and 1550 during the reigns of Louis XII and François I, the bastion formed part of a 2-kilometer defensive wall protecting Lyon.
The structure transformed from a military fortification to a convent, then a military barracks, and now houses a luxury hotel with preserved historical features.
Located near the Rhône River, the bastion maintains its original exterior structure while offering modern amenities through recent renovation work started in 2023.
During the 1848 uprising, the Voraces insurgents seized control of the bastion, leading to intense battles before the army reclaimed it in June 1849.
