Château de Montespieu is a castle in Navès featuring seven towers arranged in a rectangular formation. The fortification displays defensive architectural characteristics throughout, with thick stone walls and strategically positioned defensive elements.
Construction began around 1250 under knight Pierre de Caudière. After a century of decline, the structure underwent major reconstruction in 1510.
The Protestant de Juge family maintained ownership of the castle for nearly three centuries, from 1680 to 1964, influencing local administration.
The site is best explored on foot to fully appreciate the medieval layout. Access is generally open, with spring through fall offering the most comfortable visiting conditions.
Architect Henri-Paul Nénot undertook extensive work starting in 1896. His restoration efforts preserved medieval features while introducing contemporary improvements.
