The collégiale Saint-Martin de La Canourgue is a classified historical monument and place of worship in the town of La Canourgue, in the Lozère department. The building has a long central nave with side aisles, a rounded apse, and a walkway around it lined with small chapels.
The village of La Canourgue grew around a small monastery dedicated to Saint Martin in the 7th century, as a coin from that time confirms. In 1060, the bishop of Mende handed the monastery over to the abbey of Saint-Victor-de-Marseille, and Benedictine monks took over, turning it into a priory.
The collegiate church gets its name from the canons, priests who lived and worked there, and who played a role in shaping the village around it. Today it is still used for Sunday Mass, weddings, and baptisms, keeping it an active part of life in La Canourgue.
