Cour de l'Industrie, Historical courtyard in Quartier Sainte-Marguerite, Paris, France.
Cour de l'Industrie is a complex of three successive courtyards located off Rue de Montreuil in Paris's 11th arrondissement, with ground-level workshops and residential units above. The ensemble measures approximately 60 meters long and 10 meters wide, displaying a mix of construction techniques and architectural styles from different periods.
The site traces back to Baron Georges de Heeckeren, who purchased the ruins of the Royal Wallpaper Manufacture Reveillon in 1853 and transformed the land into worker housing and craft workshops. Over the 19th century, a dynamic complex developed here that reflected the growth of the Faubourg Saint-Antoine craft quarter.
The ground-floor workshops display traditional craftsmanship that has been practiced in this neighborhood for generations. Visitors can observe artisans working in their spaces, where time-honored techniques remain active and visible today.
The entrance is located on Rue de Montreuil in the centrally positioned 11th arrondissement with good public transport access. The neighborhood offers numerous restaurants, shops, and services in the immediate area, making it a convenient destination for walking exploration.
The first courtyard preserves original wooden-framed facades from the 19th century, giving the ensemble its distinctly older appearance. These details show how craft neighborhoods looked in this era before modern construction methods became standard.
