Crêt de l'Œillon

Crêt de l'Œillon is the second highest peak in the Pilat massif, rising to 1,364 meters (4,475 feet) in eastern France's Loire region. The summit area features parking facilities and orientation tables that help visitors understand the surrounding landscape.

The summit has long served as a natural boundary between four municipalities: Roisey, Véranne, Pélussin, and Doizieux, shaping administrative divisions in the Loire department. This role has remained significant throughout the region's development.

The summit serves as a defining landmark within the Pilat regional park, shaping how local people relate to this mountain landscape. Hikers and visitors recognize it as a key reference point for the area's natural identity.

You can reach the summit via routes D63 and D63-1, which provide good road access to the parking areas at the top. It's wise to arrive early, especially on weekends, when more visitors are expected.

On clear days, you can spot the Vercors mountains, the Ecrins range, and even Mont-Blanc from here, a rare chance to see multiple major peaks from one vantage point. This sweeping view makes it a special spot for photography and watching weather patterns move across the valleys below.
