Émetteur du mont Pilat, Television tower in Doizieux, France
The Émetteur du mont Pilat is a broadcasting facility located on the Crêt de l'Œillon peak in the French Alps. The transmission tower stands approximately 79 meters tall at an elevation of around 1361 meters, from where it transmits television and radio signals across the surrounding valleys and cities.
The facility was built in 1955 and became one of France's most powerful broadcasting stations, second only to the Eiffel Tower. This standing made it essential infrastructure for radio and television coverage across the region.
The transmitter broadcasts numerous French radio stations including France Culture, France Musique, and France Inter across the Rhône region.
The site sits at high elevation on a mountain and is most accessible during warmer months when snow and ice do not block the roads. Visitors should expect changing mountain weather and bring appropriate clothing and gear for outdoor conditions.
The transmission center completed its transition from analog to digital broadcasting in 2016, modernizing communication services for the entire region.
