Crêt de la Perdrix, Summit in Massif Central at Pilat, France
Crêt de la Perdrix is a mountain summit in the Massif Central that rises to 1,432 meters and features granite rock formations topped with an orientation table. The peak stands above rolling moorland and offers views across the landscape in multiple directions.
The mountain became one of France's first skiing destinations in the 1920s and installed an early ski lift system to serve winter sports enthusiasts. This made the region a center for early alpine recreation.
Below the summit, La Jasserie stands as one of the oldest farms in the region, where a bell once rang to guide travelers lost in storms. The place reflects the lives of mountain farmers who kept livestock here and adapted to the harsh terrain.
The mountain is accessible year-round via marked trails leading to the summit, though conditions vary with the seasons. Winter visits require appropriate gear due to snow and wind, while summer offers easier walking conditions.
On clear days, visitors can spot the Alps from this viewpoint despite being hundreds of kilometers to the west. The expansive views over the moorlands make it an unexpected vantage point for observing distant mountain ranges.
