Prefecture hotel of Puy-de-Dôme

The Prefecture Hotel is an administrative building in Clermont-Ferrand featuring Neoclassical design with columns, pediments, and detailed moldings across its facade. Inside, it contains office spaces and ceremonial areas that serve the regional government.

Construction started in 1914 following an architect's winning design and the building opened to the public in 1923. It was later recognized as a historic monument in 1991.

The main staircase displays a mural showing local monuments and important figures from the region. Visitors can see this artwork as they move through the building, creating a sense of regional identity.

The building sits on Boulevard Desaix in the city center and is easy to reach on foot. Keep in mind this is an active government office, so only certain areas are open to the public.

When built in the 1920s, the architect chose local volcanic stone from the surrounding area, giving the building a distinctive connection to the landscape. This material selection sets it apart from many other Neoclassical administrative structures.
