Grottes de Lacave, Show cave in Quercy, France
Grottes de Lacave is a cave system in Quercy with multiple chambers containing stalactites, stalagmites, and underground lakes. The limestone formations vary in size and shape throughout the passages that connect these rooms.
The cave system was discovered in 1902 and opened to visitors three years later. An electric train was installed in 1961 to transport people through the passages.
The caves contain numerous natural rock formations, including one named Notre Dame de Lacave, representing local geological heritage through guided interpretations.
Visitors travel through an artificial tunnel via electric train to enter the cave system. The guided tours take roughly 90 minutes and run during the warmer months of the year.
Several chambers have individual names such as Salle du Chaos and Salle des Orgues, named after their natural features. These rooms display different crystalline formations and structures that make each one distinct.
