La Cartoucherie

La Cartoucherie is a theater complex housed in a former ammunition storage building located within the Bois de Vincennes in eastern Paris. The site contains multiple independent performance venues that operate simultaneously with different shows.

The site was originally a military munitions manufacturing facility that was converted to a cultural venue in 1970. This transformation marked the shift from military production to artistic creativity and cultural programming.

The Théâtre du Soleil shapes the place with productions of contemporary and classical works created by Ariane Mnouchkine and her company. The stages here are spaces where theater as a living art form is continuously reinvented.

The site is located within the Bois de Vincennes park and is accessible by public transportation, with the separate theaters spread across the grounds through green space. It helps to check the performance schedules ahead of time, as not all venues operate shows simultaneously.

La Cartoucherie houses four different theater companies operating in parallel within separate spaces, forming a rare network of experimental and artistic production. This arrangement allows artists to remain independent while benefiting from the creative community around them.
