Lac du Drennec, reservoir in France
Lac du Drennec is a reservoir located near Sizun in northwestern France, covering approximately 110 hectares of water surrounded by trees. The site includes walking paths along the shoreline and designated fishing zones, with the northern section reserved exclusively for fly fishing.
The reservoir was constructed in 1981 to provide drinking water for approximately 400,000 residents across northern Brittany. This engineering project fundamentally changed the landscape and created a water storage facility that remains essential to the region's daily needs.
The reservoir serves as a gathering place for local anglers and nature enthusiasts from the surrounding region. For residents and visitors, it represents a spot where daily stress gives way to quiet moments by the water among trees.
The site is easily accessible from Sizun with several parking areas and information signage regarding fishing regulations and environmental rules. Keep in mind that certain zones, including the northern section, are restricted to fly fishing only.
A fish hatchery at the base of the dam breeds rainbow trout to supplement the wild brown trout that naturally inhabit the water from tributary streams. The northern third of the water is managed as a fly-fishing-only zone with catch-and-release restrictions to preserve the native trout population.
