Mine témoin d'Alès

The Mine Témoin exhibition complex features 650-meter-long galleries that demonstrate the technological progression of coal extraction methods from 1880 to present day.

From 1945 to 1968, this former coal mine functioned as a training facility where young apprentices between 14 and 18 years old learned mining techniques.

The underground galleries contain realistic displays with mannequins, working horses, and a Deutz locomotive to illustrate daily mining operations and workers' conditions.

The museum operates Tuesday through Sunday, with guided tours available in English upon reservation, and entry costs 12 euros for adults and 8.50 euros for teenagers.

Located beneath Montaud hill, the tunnels preserve evidence of the earliest coal mining activities in the Cévennes region, dating back to the thirteenth century.
