Manoir du Contades, Historical manor house in Contades district, Strasbourg, France.
Manoir du Contades is a residential villa in Strasbourg's Contades neighborhood featuring Medieval and Renaissance architectural elements. The building displays ornate facades, a distinctive roof, and two entrance portals positioned along the Aar river and adjacent to parkland.
The building was constructed between 1901 and 1902 by architect Albert Nadler for Otto Gunderloch, reflecting early 20th-century villa design in Strasbourg. In 1929, it passed to architect Waldemar Osterloff, showing how such residences changed hands among the city's prominent citizens.
The manor displays ornate facades and a distinctive roof that define the character of this residential quarter, reflecting the tastes of the wealthy families who built villas here. These architectural details remain visible today and shape how locals and visitors perceive the neighborhood's character.
The manor is located at the edge of Contades Park and is easily accessible from Strasbourg's city center by public transportation or car. Visitors will find the best views of the facades from public areas, particularly when walking through or around the park.
The manor is among the few original villas that once lined the Contades district, serving as a record of how this residential area developed. Many such houses vanished over time, making this preserved example increasingly rare in the neighborhood.
