Musée grenoblois des sciences médicales

The Grenoble Museum of Medical Sciences is housed in a former hospital building and displays medical instruments, photographs, documents, and health-related artifacts from different periods. The structure itself reflects the medical practices and environment of its original use.

The museum was founded in 1992 through a partnership between Grenoble University Hospital and the regional council. The building dates from 1894, when it was constructed as a chapel serving tuberculosis patients.

The collection focuses on how medicine and healthcare were understood and practiced in earlier times, showing tools and methods that shaped local healing traditions. Through these objects, visitors gain perspective on the relationship between medical knowledge and daily life across different eras.

The museum is accessible by tram line B, getting off at Michallon station, and provides one hour of free parking for visitors. It is helpful to check opening hours in advance, as the museum may have limited access during certain seasons.

The building was originally a chapel designed specifically for tuberculosis patients and has retained its distinctive exterior facade from that era. This repurposing demonstrates how medical spaces can be preserved and given new meaning.
