Musée du Vieux Toulouse

The Musée du Vieux Toulouse is a museum housed in the Renaissance building of Hôtel Dumay and displays a broad collection of objects, drawings, paintings, ceramics, and metalwork. These pieces document the city's history from ancient times through the 20th century.

The museum was founded in 1907 by the Toulousains de Toulouse association and found its permanent home at Hôtel Dumay in 1948 following a generous donation. This move enabled the institution to properly display its collections and make them accessible to the public.

The museum's name reflects Toulouse's past, and visitors find rooms filled with old artworks and objects from different periods. You can see here how people lived before and what crafts they practiced.

The museum holds the Gabriel Durand collection featuring about 160 portrait works from the period of the Second Empire. These valuable pieces show the faces of Parisian high society at a specific moment in history.
