Pension Gloanec

Pension Gloanec is a stone building at Place Paul Gauguin with two ground-floor rooms and a kitchen featuring a large fireplace. Today it operates as a bookstore that focuses on art publications and welcomes visitors throughout the week.

Marie-Jeanne Gloanec and her husband Joseph founded this pension in 1860 and made it a meeting place for international artists. The house quickly became known among creative people from different countries looking for a place to work and live.

Artists who stayed here left paintings on the dining room walls as payment for their meals and rooms. This custom turned the place into a gathering spot where creative people could connect and share their work.

The building now houses a bookstore open in the morning and afternoon, making it easy to visit while exploring the town. It sits in the center of the square, so it is straightforward to locate and reach on foot.

Paul Gauguin stayed at this house multiple times between 1886 and 1894 and developed some of his most important artistic work here. His presence drew other talented painters and helped shape the creative energy of the place.
