Porte Bergère du Dorat

The Porte Bergère features a central passage measuring 3.5 meters wide, flanked by two semi-circular towers with arrow slits and circular gun ports.

Built during the second quarter of the 15th century, this gate formed part of the stone fortifications that replaced earlier wooden defenses around Le Dorat.

The gate represents medieval military architecture with its machicolations, defensive towers, and portcullis system, demonstrating urban defense techniques of the period.

Visitors can access the gate throughout the year and observe its architectural details, including the restored watchtower windows and renovated roofing.

This structure stands as the last remaining medieval city gate in the Haute-Vienne department, retaining its original defensive features from the 15th century.
