Hôtel de la Pouge

The Hôtel de la Pouge is a private mansion in Le Dorat displaying characteristic features of 17th-century French residential architecture with carefully crafted design elements. The house was built in 1654 as a residence for Joseph Philippes de la Rivallerie, a criminal lieutenant of the Senechaussee, an administrative position of significance. Major renovations took place under Jean Philippes in 1699, reflecting the evolving needs of the following generation.

The building received official recognition as a monument historique inscrit in September 1992, marking its place among the significant architectural heritage of Haute-Vienne.

The residence is privately owned and visits require prior arrangement with the owners. It is advisable to contact ahead to discuss access and find the most suitable time for a visit.

Early records mistakenly confused this building with another house on the same street that belonged to a different family. This mix-up shows how local architectural history was sometimes complicated by incorrect attributions.
