Roman-Gaul Baths of Entrammes, Roman thermal complex in Entrammes, France.

The Roman-Gaul Baths of Entrammes is a bathing facility from antiquity with four rooms arranged in a row. The walls stand at heights of around 8.5 meters (28 feet) and feature brick windows that show the original Roman construction method.

The bathing complex was built in the 2nd century during the Roman period in the region. Parts of the structure were later incorporated into the nearby Saint-Étienne church, and the site remained hidden until archaeologists rediscovered it in 1987.

The baths served the local community as both a place for personal hygiene and a gathering spot where people met, socialized, and spent time together following Roman customs. Visitors can sense how important these spaces were to daily life in the region.

Access to the site works best through organized group tours available in French and English, so it is helpful to arrange your visit in advance. Contact the local tourism office in Entrammes in the Mayenne department to check availability and learn what to expect on your visit.

Beneath the bathing rooms runs the original hypocaust heating system, which shows how Romans cleverly placed underground pipes to warm spaces and water evenly. This hidden network of passages and channels allowed heat to spread throughout the complex without visible heating elements.
