The peatland formed within a granite depression and its sediment buildup extends back thousands of years. Research conducted decades ago helped scientists understand how this wetland developed over an extended period.
Local stories shape how people relate to this place, including the legend of the Cents Pierres, scattered rocks that residents connect to tales of a greedy lord turned to stone. These traditions reflect how communities interpret the landscape around them.
Two marked walking trails lead through the site: a short path of about one kilometer suitable for families and a longer route of about nine kilometers with elevation changes. Bring appropriate footwear for wet ground and muddy sections.
A remarkable feature is the font bulidière, a bubbling spring where gas regularly emerges through gravel, creating an environment where few plants can survive. This unusual gas vent stands out as one of the most striking aspects of the site.
