Mont Faron cableway, Aerial tramway on Mont Faron, Toulon, France
The Mont Faron cableway is an aerial tramway that carries visitors from the outskirts of Toulon up the mountainside. The journey takes roughly seven minutes and crosses over pine forests and residential areas as it climbs to the summit.
The cableway opened in 1959 as part of efforts to improve public access to the mountain. It connects the city to the summit, where several fortifications from the 16th century remain standing.
The Memorial Museum at the summit presents Operation Dragoon through exhibits of military equipment, including a Sherman tank and German anti-tank weapons.
The ride saves visitors from a long drive and delivers them directly to viewpoints, restaurants, and hiking trails at the summit. Keep in mind the mountain can be windy and visibility varies depending on weather conditions.
This is the only operational cable car along the entire French Mediterranean coast and reaches roughly 584 meters above sea level. From the top, you get expansive views across Toulon's harbor and bay.
