Château de Jallanges, Historic castle in Vernou-sur-Brenne, France.
Château de Jallanges is a castle built from brick and stone with Renaissance design elements in the Loire Valley. The grounds contain over 2000 rose plants in different varieties alongside ancient cedar trees that frame the property.
The castle was built around 1465 for royal financial officials under Louis XI and stands on the foundations of an earlier medieval fortress. The structure combines this earlier past with later Renaissance architecture.
The gallery inside features large-scale wall paintings depicting scenes of the Loire region and gardens through the seasons. These artworks shape the interior experience and tell of the Renaissance world that once thrived here.
The castle is open to visitors from March through October, allowing time to explore both the gardens and interior rooms. The best season to visit is spring and summer when the roses are in bloom and the grounds feel most alive.
A 7-meter-tall sculpture of Saint Martin stands on the grounds, representing the largest depiction of this historical figure in the region. Many visitors overlook this striking sculpture, though it is a defining feature of the estate.
