Lafayette Anticipations – Galeries Lafayette Corporate Foundation, Art museum and cultural foundation in Le Marais, France
Lafayette Anticipations is an art museum housed in a renovated 19th-century industrial building with flexible exhibition spaces across multiple levels. A central void runs through the structure, allowing different spatial arrangements depending on what each exhibition requires.
The Galeries Lafayette Foundation established this space in 2013 to support contemporary artistic practice and exhibition. Architect Rem Koolhaas redesigned the historic industrial building, which opened to the public in 2018.
The foundation showcases contemporary art from both established and emerging artists across different countries and mediums. Visitors encounter exhibitions that blend traditional and experimental approaches to understanding how art is made and presented today.
The museum is located in the 4th arrondissement of Paris and offers free entry to many of its programs and exhibitions. Check ahead to see what is currently on display, as the programming changes regularly throughout the year.
The building features a mechanical system with movable walls and floors that shift vertically to create different room configurations. This innovative design allows the same space to be completely transformed depending on what the artists and curators need for each show.
