Moulin de Vertain, Templeuve

The Moulin de Vertain is a 15th century mill with a brick tower that rises above the flat landscape. Inside, the structure still contains parts of the original grinding mechanism that wind once powered to process grain.

A mill stood on this site starting in 1328, owned by Anchin Abbey. The brick tower was built later and represents the period when such mills became common across the region.

The mill served as a gathering place where local people brought grain to be processed, making it central to community life. You can still see the work areas where millers spent long days turning grain into flour.

The mill sits in flat terrain and is easiest to reach by following walking paths around Templeuve. Visit during weekends or warmer months when the surroundings are most accessible.

This structure merges two different construction types: a brick tower exterior combined with internal mechanics that resemble an older post mill design. This rare blend of two techniques makes it one of its kind.
