Ring of Remembrance, War memorial in Ablain-Saint-Nazaire, France
The Ring of Remembrance is a war memorial shaped like an ellipse made of concrete and stainless steel near Notre-Dame-de-Lorette. The structure holds metal panels with names inscribed on them, stretching around the landscape.
The memorial was inaugurated in 2014 and records soldiers who died during World War One in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region. Names are listed alphabetically regardless of which country they served.
The name refers to the circular shape, symbolizing unity and remembrance across borders. Walking around the elliptical structure, visitors encounter names on metal panels that represent a shared human cost of war beyond national boundaries.
The site is located at Chemin du mont de Lorette north of Arras and is open throughout the year. The setting is in open countryside, making the structure visible from all directions.
One metal panel is intentionally left blank and reserved for any names that may be discovered in the future. Some sections of the structure float above ground, a design choice meant to represent the fragile nature of peace.
