During the late 12th century, Bishop Henri II gifted this manor to Dean Etienne, receiving confirmations from both Richard the Lionheart and John Lackland.
The building underwent a transformation into a cultural institution, previously housing both the Municipal Library and the Tapestry Museum until 1983.
Located on the right bank of the Aure River in central Bayeux, the monument remains accessible through the Lambert-Leforestier Street.
A chapel dedicated to Thomas Becket was established within the premises before his canonization, marking its religious significance.
