Château de Vaugien, Historic castle in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse, France

Château de Vaugien is a rectangular castle with a terrace roof and a second-floor loggia built for a wealthy family. The estate is surrounded by 40 hectares of century-old trees and lime tree alleys, with additional wings added in the early 1900s.

The castle was completed in 1829 by architect Pierre Lorotte, a student of Claude Nicolas Ledoux, for a wealthy family. Over the early 1900s, the building underwent major expansions to meet new needs.

The rooms inside display furnishings, curtains, and decorations from the 1800s, including a library, grand salon, billiard room, and dining areas. These spaces give a sense of how wealthy families of that era lived and arranged their homes.

The castle offers escape game experiences in its dungeons and tablet-guided exploration tours across the grounds. All activities require advance reservations and should be planned ahead.

Since 2005, the estate has served as a filming location for productions including the film Coco avant Chanel and the series Un village français. This film history has given the place a place in cinema.
