The musée Clément-Ader is a city and history museum in Muret, housed in an Art Deco villa that once served as a private residence. Its rooms cover local archaeology, the Battle of Muret, and the lives of notable people connected to the town.
The Art Deco villa that houses the museum was designed by architect Patrice Bonnet and served as the home of Vincent Auriol, a former president of France. The museum opened in June 2011, bringing together collections that had been held separately for years.
The museum is in the center of Muret, within walking distance of the train station, with bus stops and parking nearby. Entry is free for visitors under 18 and students, and guided tours can be arranged for groups.
The museum holds a bust of Nicolas Dalayrac, a composer born in Muret, sculpted by Houdon, one of the most celebrated portrait sculptors of the 18th century. The collection also features caricatures by illustrators Sennep and Dubout, which are rarely highlighted in typical history museums.
