Sakarun, Sandy beach in Dugi Otok, Croatia

Sakarun is a sandy beach on the northwest coast of Dugi Otok, stretching about 300 meters along the shore with roughly 200 meters of open sand. The water is exceptionally clear and remains shallow for a good distance before dropping deeper further out.

This beach lies within Sali, a settlement where people have made their living from the sea and the land for centuries. The area kept its fishing and farming traditions alive across many generations.

The communities around here have tended olive groves and vineyards for generations, shaping how people live and work in this part of the island. You can see this way of life reflected in the small farms and fields that stretch back from the coast.

The beach is reachable by ferry from Zadar to nearby ports like Brbinj or Božava. From there, local transport options can help you reach the beach, so it is worth checking ahead for the most current services.

The beach is part of an international network that recognizes and protects special bays across multiple countries. Beneath the surface, seagrass meadows support a rich underwater world and help keep the water clean.
