Sakarun, White sand beach in Soline, Croatia.
Sakarun is a beach on Dugi Otok island that stretches for about 800 meters along the coast. The water is turquoise and clear, while the seafloor is covered in fine white sand formed from broken-down limestone.
The beach formed through natural geological processes over thousands of years. Sailors documented the white limestone formations as early as the 1800s.
Local fishermen continue their generations-old tradition of launching small boats from Sakarun Beach to catch fresh fish for nearby restaurants.
The beach is accessible by ferry from Zadar to the island, followed by a short drive or bus ride. The shallow water extends far from shore, making it ideal for families with young children.
The water reaches about 28°C in summer and stays pleasant for swimmers throughout the season. The gradual depth change means visitors can wade far out without suddenly dropping into deep water.
