Legény Cave, Natural cave in Pilisszentlélek, Hungary.
Legény Cave is a natural cave in the Pilis Mountains, with its entrance opening into a spacious main chamber on the western rocky slope. The passage system contains both wide areas and narrower sections that create a varied underground structure.
The cave was occupied in prehistoric times, with evidence of use from the Paleolithic through the Bronze Age. Archaeological digs in 1912 by Lajos Bella and Ottokár Kadić uncovered tools and pottery fragments, plus signs of medieval activity at the entrance.
The cave contains evidence of human habitation from multiple periods, including the Paleolithic era and Bronze Age, with discoveries of tools and pottery.
Visitors need sturdy footwear with good grip and should bring a flashlight, as some areas are quite dark. Outside weather affects conditions in the cave, so it makes sense to check current conditions before your visit.
The cave features stalactites and rare cave pearls formed in upper Triassic limestone from the Dachstein formation. These mineral formations developed over millions of years through dripping water action.
