Fort Monostor

The fortress contains 640 rooms, three flanking bastions connected by a moat, casemates, and galleries spanning three kilometers of underground passages.

Between 1850 and 1871, approximately 10,000 workers, including 2,000 masons, constructed this fortress as part of The Gibraltar on the Danube defense system.

The fortress displays nine exhibitions about military history, featuring Cold War artifacts, weapons, and military vehicles throughout its monumental stone walls.

Visitors can explore the 30,000-square-meter casemate area through guided thematic tours that demonstrate military life from the nineteenth century.

The firearms instruction hall contains rare wall paintings and architectural elements that make it distinct among European military training facilities.
