Remete-hegyi Niche

Remete-hegyi Niche is a cave in the hills near Budapest with a broad limestone entrance portal. The chamber behind opens into a spacious hollow carved by water through soft rock layers.

People used this shelter during prehistoric times, as evidenced by animal bones discovered in layers inside. The repeated occupation suggests it served as a reliable refuge across different periods of early human history.

The cave forms part of the Remete Valley geological complex, contributing to scientific research about Hungarian cave formations and early human settlements.
