Remete-völgyi Upper Cave, Natural cave system in Buda Hills, Hungary
The Remete-völgyi Upper Cave extends 44 meters in length and descends 15 meters into white limestone formations near Hűvösvölgy.
First archaeological excavations of the cave began in 1914 under Ottokár Kadić, with subsequent investigations by László Vértess revealing ancient human habitation patterns.
The cave served multiple purposes throughout history, from Stone Age dwelling to a hiding place for valuable possessions and counterfeiting operations.
Visitors can access the cave via buses 157 and 157a from Hűvösvölgy, following the Blue Trail signs to reach the entrance above the creek bed.
The fossil solutional cave structure displays geological formations and erosion patterns that indicate previous water flow through its passages.
