Gaeltacht na nDéise

Gaeltacht na nDéise is an Irish language territory on Ireland's southeastern coast near Dungarvan, encompassing the parishes of Ring and Old Parish. The area spans several kilometers inland and maintains Irish as part of everyday life.

The area became an official protected language region through the Gaeltacht Areas Order in 1956. This designation represented a key moment in safeguarding Irish language use in this specific region.

The area maintains its own Irish language dialect and is home to traditional music and Sean Nós singing, which you can hear regularly at local gatherings and events.

A local bus service connects the area to nearby towns and makes it easy to reach. Several walking trails wind through the region, offering different routes suitable for various fitness levels.

The area contains Reilig an tSléibhe, a famine graveyard with unmarked graves that commemorate the Great Famine of the 1840s. This site preserves memory of a tragic period in Irish history.
