Limerick City Gallery of Art, Art museum in Pery Square, Limerick, Ireland
Limerick City Gallery of Art occupies a building on Pery Square and houses an extensive collection of Irish artworks spanning from the 18th to 21st century across two floors. Multiple exhibition spaces within showcase different pieces and also hold the National Collection of Contemporary Drawing.
The building was constructed in 1906 as a Carnegie library and museum serving a different purpose originally. In 1936 it was converted into the Limerick City Collection of Art and gained a purpose-built extension.
The gallery shows rotating exhibitions featuring both Irish and international artists throughout the year. Visitors can see works by notable figures like Sean Keating and Jack Yeats, who shaped the art scene.
The venue is open from Monday through Saturday starting in the morning and Sundays beginning midday, with wheelchair access provided. A café overlooking People's Park offers visitors a place to rest.
The gallery houses the Michael O'Connor International Poster Collection, a specialized assemblage of posters from various countries. This collection represents an unexpected focus that honors the art form of poster design.
