Buddha Jayanti Park, Commemorative park in New Delhi, India
Buddha Jayanti Park is a commemorative park in western New Delhi, near the Central Ridge Reserve Forest, with ornamental gardens, water features, and walking paths under native trees. It combines tended garden sections, open lawns, and natural woodland areas within the same grounds.
The park was created in 1964 to mark the 2508th anniversary of Buddha's enlightenment. It was established by the Indian government as a gesture of recognition toward the Buddhist tradition in the country.
At the center of the park stands a bronze Buddha statue surrounded by stone tablets engraved with Buddhist teachings. People often sit quietly nearby or walk slowly along the paths, giving the place a contemplative, unhurried feel.
The park is open every day from sunrise to sunset and has several entry points from the Central Ridge Reserve side. The paths are easy to walk and well-maintained, making it simple to move around without a map.
The park contains elements donated by several Asian countries, including a pagoda and a meditation hall, each reflecting a different Buddhist tradition. This makes it one of the few places in India where contributions from multiple countries can be seen side by side.
