Gorakhnath Math

Gorakhnath Math is a Hindu temple and monastery in Gorakhpur, India, that spreads across an extensive site with several buildings. The complex includes shrines from different periods, residential areas for monks, and open courtyards where worshippers gather.

Guru Gorakhnath founded a center for yoga and spiritual exercises here in past centuries, which became the birthplace of the Nath movement. Later rulers and followers expanded the site over the centuries and added new structures.

The name comes from Guru Gorakhnath, whose followers still practice according to Nath traditions and live within the grounds today. Pilgrims often bring offerings and join daily ceremonies held in the different shrines across the complex.

Access is through several entrances, with the main gate easiest to reach from Gorakhpur railway station. The grounds are walkable, though some areas may be closed to visitors during certain ceremonies.

A flame burns without interruption in a dedicated chamber and is tended constantly by the monks. This tradition traces back to the original meditation practices introduced here centuries ago.
