Talesvara Siva Temple

Talesvara Siva Temple is a Hindu shrine in Old Town Bhubaneswar built from light grey sandstone with carefully carved elephants and lions adorning its walls. The structure sits on an elevated platform and features a central sanctum where religious ceremonies take place.

The temple dates to the 8th century and displays architectural features of that era, including a vault decorated with eight celestial bodies. Over the centuries, the original superstructure has partially deteriorated through weathering.

Local devotees visit regularly, especially during major festivals like Shivaratri and Kartika Purnima, when the temple fills with offerings and prayers. These celebrations show how worship continues to thrive here today.

The site sits along Kedar Gouri Road and is easily accessible on foot. Visitors should dress appropriately and show respect for the sacred space, particularly when ceremonies are underway.

The temple compound walls contain laterite blocks, a local building material that creates a different color from the main sandstone structure. This blend of materials shows how the shrine was repaired and expanded over time.
