Rameshwar Deula, Hindu temple in Bhubaneswar, India.
Rameshwar Deula is a Hindu temple and Monument of National Importance located in Bhubaneswar, in the Indian state of Odisha. It has a pyramidal roof and a front hall held up by sixteen outer pillars covered in stone carvings.
The temple was built in the 9th century, making it one of the older sacred sites in Bhubaneswar. At the heart of the shrine stands a large black stone that has been venerated for many generations.
Local belief holds that Lord Rama blessed this site after a great victory, which gives the place a deep religious meaning for many visitors. Pilgrims come throughout the year to pray and take part in rituals held inside the temple.
The temple sits close to other well-known temples in the old part of Bhubaneswar and can easily be visited on foot as part of a wider tour of the area. Visitors should wear modest clothing and remove shoes before entering, as is customary at Hindu temples.
During the Ashokashtami festival, a major deity from a nearby temple is brought here by chariot and remains for four days, turning this site into the temporary center of one of the biggest regional celebrations. This tradition draws large crowds from across the area each year.
