Suka Temple

Suka Temple is a Hindu shrine located in the old quarter of Bhubaneswar, distinguished by detailed stone carvings covering its surface. Lotus motifs and scrollwork run vertically along the structure, creating a rhythm of ornamental detail.

The shrine was built during the Ganga dynasty in the 13th century, representing a mature phase of Odisha's regional architectural traditions. Its saptaratha design reflects the refined building practices of that period.

The temple features elaborate doorway carvings where mythological figures and religious scenes from Hindu texts appear on the stone surfaces. These details tell stories that become visible and tangible as visitors walk through the entrance.

Archaeological excavations at this site uncovered remains of at least five additional temples, with some possibly dating back to the 7th century. This suggests the location served as an important religious center across multiple centuries.
