Purvesvara Siva Temple, Hindu temple in Old Town Bhubaneswar, India
The Purvesvara Siva Temple features traditional Kalingan stone architecture with a jagamohana structure and intricate carvings throughout its grey sandstone walls.
Built in the 13th century, this temple represents the architectural practices of the Kalinga period when Hindu religious structures dominated the landscape of eastern India.
The temple remains an active center for Hindu worship, where devotees participate in ceremonies such as Sivaratri, Sankranti, and Rudraviseka throughout the year.
Located 300 meters east of Lingaraja Temple along the road to Garej chowk, the temple stands on a platform measuring 12.15 meters by 7.40 meters.
The pyramidal structure of the jagamohana contains eleven distinct tiers reaching 3.93 meters in height, supported by two potalas and decorated with rekha deul designs.
