Vedapureeswarar Temple, Thiruverkadu, Hindu temple in Thiruverkadu, India
Vedapureeswarar Temple is a Hindu temple in Thiruverkadu, in the Tiruvallur district near Chennai, southern India. The complex has two gateway towers and several shrines inside, with the main one dedicated to Shiva and another to his consort Balambigai.
The temple has roots going back at least to the 7th century, making it one of the older places of worship in the region. A major renovation in 1973 restored and reinforced the structure while keeping its traditional form.
The temple is known for its daily rituals performed by priests with careful attention to tradition. Visitors can observe these ceremonies and experience the devotional atmosphere that fills the spaces throughout the day.
The temple is close to Chennai and is most comfortable to visit in the early morning, before the day heats up and crowds grow. Shoes must be removed before entering the inner areas, as is standard practice in Hindu temples across India.
The main tower rises in seven tiers and is covered with carved figures of deities and mythological scenes. Inside the inner sanctum, Shiva and Parvati are shown in their wedding form, a composition that is rarely found in other temples in this part of the country.
