Anjaneya Temple, Nanganallur, Hindu temple in Nanganallur, India
The Anjaneya Temple in Nanganallur is a Hindu shrine dedicated to Hanuman, with a 32-foot granite statue at its center. The figure stands within a 90-foot tower and faces west over an open courtyard.
A community of religious followers founded the temple in 1989 and completed the consecration six years later. A spiritual leader from Kanchi led the ceremony to inaugurate the sculpture.
The name Anjaneya honors the deity's origin as the son of Anjana, a figure in Hindu mythology. Worshippers walk clockwise around the statue, pausing to pray and place flowers at its base.
The grounds open daily for worshippers and visitors who wish to explore the main shrine or the smaller side chapels. Rituals and prayers take place throughout the day, with early morning and evening hours often drawing more devotees.
The granite figure was carved from a single massive stone block, making it one of the largest monolithic Hanuman statues. Only one other sculpture in the Tamil Nadu region exceeds its dimensions.
