Brahma Jinalaya, Lakkundi, Jain temple in Lakkundi, India.
The Brahma Jinalaya is a Jain temple in Lakkundi with a square base and a five-story tower structure whose surfaces are covered with fine carvings in green stone. The intricate details run throughout the building and display the craftsmanship of its era.
A ruler commissioned the construction of this complex around 1007 CE during the rule of the Western Chalukyas. Its founding marked a period of active temple building in the region.
The temple served as a focal point for worship in the region, with its inner halls displaying representations of important spiritual figures. Religious practice has centered here for centuries, shaping the spiritual identity of the local community.
The complex is located in Lakkundi, a small village southeast of Gadag-Betageri, and is easiest to reach by bus. The nearby railway station in Gadag provides the best connection for travelers coming from larger cities.
This structure belongs to a rare group of survivors from an earlier period. Of five Jain temples that once stood in this area, only a few have endured to the present day.
