Ameenpur Lake, Biodiversity reservoir in Sangareddy District, India
The 93-acre Ameenpur Lake stands at 530 meters elevation with a maximum depth of 8 meters near the edge of Hyderabad city.
Abdul Qadir Amin Khan of Patancheru constructed this reservoir during Ibrahim Qutb Shah's reign between 1550 and 1580 to irrigate his gardens.
The lake functions as a major location for nature observation, drawing photographers and researchers to document the 166 bird species inhabiting the area.
The reservoir sits amid urban development with factories and modern apartments, making it accessible from different points in the Hyderabad region.
The Ministry of Environment designated Ameenpur Lake as India's first water body to receive Biodiversity Heritage Site status under the 2002 Biological Diversity Act.
