Ochsenbug, Mountain summit in East Tyrol, Austria.
Ochsenbug is a mountain peak in the Venediger Group in East Tyrol and reaches a height of 3007 meters. The massif features steep rocky flanks, while the approach routes pass through extensive alpine meadows.
The peak was first documented as climbed in 1854 when surveyor Hermann van Acken reached it during mapping expeditions of the Eastern Alps. This first ascent was part of early systematic surveys of the high alpine summits in this region.
The mountain peak displays a large metal cross at its summit, following the Alpine tradition of marking significant mountainous achievements with religious symbols.
The standard route from Hinteregg requires about 5 to 6 hours of walking on marked trails with nearly 1700 meters of elevation gain. Good footwear and stamina are important because the route is consistently demanding.
The summit is the easternmost three-thousand-meter peak of the Venediger Group and offers views of both the Großglockner and Großvenediger from the top. Its location makes it a special vantage point for seeing multiple dominant alpine peaks simultaneously.
