Schloss Elsenheim, 15th-century castle in Altstadt, Austria

Schloss Elsenheim is a tower-shaped structure from the 15th century distinguished by two small turrets on its northern and southern sides. A high protective wall surrounds the property, with a baroque garden visible behind it.

Hans Elsenheimer, a former Salzburg mayor, had this residence built in 1449. The structure underwent extensive renovations in the 17th century that transformed it into its current baroque form.

The castle served as a workspace and home for artists across generations. Painter Franz von Pausinger worked here during the 19th century, and the building attracted other creative residents who used it as their personal studio.

The castle is located at the intersection of Arenberg Street and Pausinger Street in the right bank district of Salzburg's old town. It is a private residence that can be viewed from the outside, though interior access is not available.

The residence is owned by the Piech family, known as descendants of the Porsche founders. The family has preserved the original baroque garden layout, which remains visible in aerial photographs.
