Schloss Fürberg, castle in Salzburg
Schloss Fürberg is a castle in Salzburg built in Gothic style, featuring the main building alongside a chapel and farm structures. The entire complex sits at the base of Kapuzinerberg and is surrounded by a park with mature trees and a small stream.
The castle was first mentioned in 1316 and originally belonged to the Church of St. Peter before passing through various owners over the centuries. In the 17th century, the Feyertag family built the present castle following plans of an older fortress and gave it their family name.
The castle bears the name of a family that lived here for centuries and shaped its character. The chapel on the grounds with its stained glass windows shows how religion and family life were intertwined over time.
The castle is privately owned and not open to visitors, so you can only view it from outside. The surrounding park and landscape are visible from a nearby walk and offer a good view of the exterior and historic surroundings.
A plane crash in the park beside the castle in 1955 claimed the lives of the pilot and all passengers and remains a moving moment in local history. Despite this tragedy, the castle was restored and continues to preserve an important piece of Salzburg's past.
