Sacré Coeur Riedenburg

Sacré Coeur Riedenburg is a large complex on the eastern shore of Lake Constance combining a monastery, church, schools, and residential quarters for students. The site offers education from primary through gymnasium levels with options for both day students and boarders living on the grounds.

The site began as a residence of the Lords of Niedegge in 1406 and was later destroyed before being restored by Hanns Schmid. The transformation into an educational monastery started in 1853 when the property was purchased and adapted for schooling.

The wooden reliefs depicting Stations of the Cross and sandstone saint figures within the church showcase craftsmanship from the 1800s. Visitors can observe these religious artworks displayed along the side altars, revealing the connection between faith and artistic expression.

The complex sits directly on Lake Constance with good accessibility and spacious grounds for exploring. Keep in mind that this is an active school campus, so visiting hours and access to certain areas may be limited.

The church was constructed between 1862 and 1865 in neo-Gothic style, reflecting architectural tastes of that era. This building style sets the church apart from the older sections and defines much of what visitors first notice about the complex.
